The new environmental education project \u201cABC - AgriBioCircular\u201d, led by InnovPlantProtect (InPP), was one of the winners of the 6th edition<\/a> Program Environmental Fund<\/a>, within the framework of the National Strategy for Environmental Education (ENEA 2022<\/a>). The aim is to implement an educational program aimed at secondary and higher education students that aims to make young people aware of their role as an integral part of a community - local and global - that must make responsible decisions that guarantee the preservation of the territory and the planet in the present and for future generations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ABC - AgriBioCircular project will be developed in a school context, in InPP's laboratories and in the company's olive groves, vineyards and cork oak forests Reynolds Wine Growers<\/a>, located in Arronches, where practical activities will be carried out for students from the Dom Sancho II Secondary School in Elvas<\/a> and the Escola Superior Agr\u00e1ria de Elvas (ESAE<\/a>). The educational program aims to show good examples of the application of circular economy principles to agriculture and their influence on biodiversity. Insects and microorganisms, often negatively connoted and whose role in ecosystems and food is undervalued, will be the protagonists of this program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIn addition to the focus on insects and microorganisms, the other novelty of this project is the citizen science project in which the students will be involved. In these activities, students will be able to collect data that will be stored in an application developed by the InPP team,\u201d he says iLaria Marengo<\/a>, said the InPP researcher responsible for the project. \u201cThis data will help us gather more precise information on the seasonal patterns of various species of insects and microorganisms that are beneficial to ecosystems or that can have a negative impact on agricultural crops by acting as pests,\u201d she adds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of this project, the program \u201cThe ABC of Circular Agriculture and Biodiversity\u201d will also be broadcast on the Radio Elvas<\/a>, This is a weekly program (every Wednesday) that aims to raise awareness of the initiative and keep the Alto Alentejo community informed of the latest developments. The program will also be available as a podcast on the streaming platform Soundcloud<\/em> from InPP on Radio Elvas here<\/a> and on the project website here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 6th edition of the Environmental Fund program granted non-repayable grants of close to 1.5 million euros to a total of 37 projects, with the aim of supporting environmental policies for the pursuit of sustainable development objectives, contributing to the fulfillment of national and international objectives and commitments assumed by Portugal, namely those relating to climate change, water resources, waste and the conservation of nature and biodiversity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
