{"id":3150,"date":"2021-03-04T12:32:17","date_gmt":"2021-03-04T12:32:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/iplantprotect.pt\/?p=3150"},"modified":"2025-05-08T13:41:26","modified_gmt":"2025-05-08T13:41:26","slug":"xfstop-goes-ahead-with-olive-tree-sampling-to-isolate-endophytes","status":"publish","type":"eventos","link":"https:\/\/iplantprotect.pt\/en\/eventos\/xfstop-avanca-com-a-recolha-de-amostras-de-oliveira-para-o-isolamento-de-endofitos\/","title":{"rendered":"XfSTOP goes ahead with olive tree sampling to isolate endophytes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As part of the XfSTOP project, led by InnovPlantProtect's New Biopesticides Department, which aims to use biological control tools to manage the bacterium <em>Xylella fastidiosa<\/em> in olive groves, members of the team that makes up this department went on a field trip to Herdade de Reguengo, belonging to INIAV, in Elvas, on February 10th.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With the help of INIAV researchers Rocio Calder\u00f3n-Arias and Ant\u00f3nio Cordeiro, the InPP team collected olive tree samples of different varieties (Leccino, Cobran\u00e7osa and Arbequina), making it possible to optimize protocols for the isolation of symbiotic bacteria that live inside olive trees, the endophytes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These endophytes, inhabitants of the same ecological niche as the <em>Xylella<\/em>, The endophyte will be used to produce our biopesticide, explains Cristina Azevedo, director of the Department.
