(In update)
Collaborative laboratory (CoLAB) InnovPlantProtect (InPP) is present at Portuguese Ovibeja 2022 agrifair. You can visit us at stand 64 in the Institutional Pavilion, at Parque de Feiras e Exposições Manuel de Castro e Brito, in Beja, Alentejo, from April 21st until the 25th, 2022, 11 AM to 9 PM.
At the stand, you will be able to get to know InPP’s activities in the development of bio-inspired solutions for the protection of crops against pests and diseases, including the products and services the CoLAB is already prepared to offer the market and the innovation ecosystems.
Part of the researchers’ team will be there during the five days of the fair, to demonstrate InPP’s several skills and competences.
The Department of New Biopesticides, for instance, will show biological control agents (BCAs) – fungi and bacteria in Petri dishes -, as well as healthy rice plants and rice plants infected with the fungus Magnaporthe oryzae, which causes rice blast disease, and some BCAs which inhibit M. oryzae. The Department of Formulations and Process will take exemplary samples of encapsulation of active agents (pre and post processing).
Researchers from the Department of Data Management and Risk Analysis will speak about microbiome analysis and risk model development, and show the dashboard of a weather calculator developed at InPP. In terms os Protection of Specific Crops, you will be able to learn more about the laboratory services we offer, namely molecular identification and diagnosis, as well as understand how the in vitro biocontrol tests work, and keep up with the work carried out on yellow rust wheat disease, among many others.
The Monitoring and Diagnosis Department will exhibit projects “A palavra aos castanheiros: educar para os conhecer, proteger e monitorizar através da tecnologia IoT” and “A cigarrinha-verde, uma praga nas vinhas do Sul de Portugal: métodos de diagnóstico e ferramentas de monitorização“. Also highlighted will be decision support systems based on GIS, spatial databases and Web/mobile applications.
Videos, photos and presentations will always be available on a monitor, so that the visitors can virtually “enter” our house, laboratories, field work, events and other initiatives, in addition to talking to the team on site, ready to receive them.
On Saturday, April 23rd, at 3 PM, InPP organizes a seminar titled “Protecting crops to feed the world: from soil microorganisms to pest and disease monitoring techniques”.
The speakers in this conference are InPP’s CEO, Pedro Fevereiro, who will introduce the CoLAB, iLaria Marengo, director of the Monitoring and Diagnosis department, who will speak about remote sensing applied to crop protection, and Ricardo Ramiro, director of the Data Management and Risk Analysis Department, who will address the topic of soil microbiome.
Pedro Fevereiro also takes part in the seminar organized by ACOS – Associação de Agricultores do Sul on Saturday at 10:30 AM, titled “How to feed the planet?”, the main theme of Ovibeja 2022, and in the seminar “The European green agenda. Agriculture sustainability and food sovereignty”, which takes place on Friday, April 22nd, at 4 PM, in Auditório da Expobeja.
OTHER ACTIVITIES
On Saturday, at 4 PM, InPP researchers join CEBAL‘s program at Ovibeja, carrying out an activity to demonstrate the application of a solution to “treat” a diseased plant, explaining the importance of the crop and the impact of the pathogen.
Sunday morning, InPP’s CEO, Pedro Fevereiro, will be with CEBAL for an informal conversation with visitors.
